Celebrated filmmaker Shakun Batra takes a bold step into the future through the launch of the ‘Imagine with Shakun Batra X Google Gemini’ series, a cinematic experiment in collaboration with Google using Veo 3, Google’s advanced AI video generation model. The teaser for this first-of-its-kind series is out now, offering audiences a sneak peek into a new era where storytelling meets nextgen technology.
Known for his emotionally layered storytelling and nuanced direction, Shakun Batra has carved a distinct space in Indian cinema with films like Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, Kapoor & Sons, and Gehraiyaan. With each project, he has explored complex human relationships through a deeply personal lens, now extending that curiosity into the realm of technology.
Directed by Shakun Batra and produced by Jouska Films, ‘Imagine with Shakun Batra X Google Gemini’ will be a five-part visual series dedicated to exploring the art of the possible with AI and how it can act as a thoughtful creative partner in narrative filmmaking, opening up new avenues of imagination, accessibility, and expression. Using Veo 3 in Google Gemini and Flow, Google AI’s filmmaking tool, over the coming months, Shakun and team will be experimenting with AI-powered cinematic sequences across distinct genres, from action and drama to sci-fi and comedy.

Shakun adds, “This tech gave me a way to finally explore what a car chase would look like, something I’ve never done before. It’s the kind of ambitious, dynamic concept that, for many independent artists, can be challenging to produce due to logistical and budget constraints. This is where the technology can step in to open new avenues for visualizing and iterating complex ideas. Rough edges and all, it was one of the most freeing creative experiences I’ve had. It’s not perfect, but it’s a glimpse of what’s possible when curiosity leads the way.”
Shakun believes this technology has the potential to amplify an artist’s creative vision. He adds: “Even a student in a small town, with a story and a vision, can now produce sequences that used to require studio-scale resources. If used right, AI doesn’t reduce creativity; it liberates it. While the tools generate visuals, it’s the filmmaker’s choices that give them meaning.
