Producer SKN a happy man as ‘Baby’ continues to log cool numbers at the box-office
‘Baby’, which was released in theatres on July 14, has been catapulted to the top league among medium-range films at the Telugu box office. Its producer, SKN, can’t ask for more. Trade pundits opine that the film, which narrates an emotionally intense teen love triangle, is going to surpass the collections of the pathbreaking hit ‘Arjun Reddy’ (2017), which made Vijay Deverakonda the next big thing in Telugu cinema. Vijay’s younger brother, Anand Deverakonda, has led ‘Baby’ with Vaishnavi Chaitanya playing his complicated lover.
For producer SKN, the dream run of ‘Baby’ marks a turning point in his career as a producer. It is evident that the film has already surpassed ‘Arjun Reddy’ and ‘DJ Tillu’, two of the most-loved youth-centric films in recent years. Those in the know are estimating that the final box-office collections of ‘Baby’ is going to exceed that of ‘Kantara’ and ‘Jathi Ratnalu’ in the Telugu States.
His 2018 film ‘Taxiwala’ with Vijay minted profits. SKN decided to produce ‘Baby’ with Anand at that time. This is a rare instance when the same producer has churned out two notable hits with two siblings as heroes. “I knew Anand Deverakonda even before his first movie was out. I found him knowledgeable about cinema and promised to make a film with him even before ‘Taxiwala’ was out in theatres,” SKN recently said in an interview.
SKN’s career as a producer has seen collaborative endeavors with banners like GA2 Pictures and UV Creations. The resounding success of ‘Baby’ is the biggest feather in his cap. “I started out as a journalist in the electronic media. After my stint as a media person and a publicist in the Telugu film industry, I transitioned to movie production. To me, ‘Baby’ is an ‘Interstellar’-level blockbuster story in terms of personal satisfaction,” SKN wrote on social media recently when a viral video of him slapping his thigh over making a “cult film for youths” went viral.
SKN is now looking forward to producing two theatrical releases and a web release each year. He will be teaming up with ‘Baby’ maker Sai Rajesh on one more project. He has also firmed up a project with ‘Colour Photo’ director Sandeep Raj, another talent SKN has known for years.
What is more, SKN will also be bankrolling films with Rahul Sankrityan of Nani’s ‘Shyam Singha Roy’ fame and Vi Anand of ‘Ekkadiki Pothavu Chinnavada’ fame as directors. “Rahul’s film will be a big-scale project,” SKN recently said. *Producer SKN a happy man as ‘Baby’ continues to log cool numbers at the box-office*
