A ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla’ moment at the Cannes: Anupam Kher and Boman Irani unite to launch the short-film ‘The Prayer’ at Cannes Film Festival despite heavy rains
The Bharat Pavilion at the Cannes Film Festival witnessed a heartfelt reunion as veteran actors Anupam Kher and Boman Irani came together to launch the short film, ‘The Prayer’. The event marked a nostalgic moment reminiscent of their collaboration in the cult film ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla’ as the two actors spoke about their shared love and the need to promote filmmaking.
The event at the pavilion organised by NFDC and FICCI under the aegis of Information and Broadcasting ministry, also brought together the film’s cast and crew which included director Nivedita Pohankar and producer Makarand Deshpande.
‘The Prayer’ is an exploration of faith and fear that narrates how unwavering belief has transformative powers. This film follows a woman’s desperate plea for her brother’s life while capturing her emotional turmoils that waver between despair and hope.
Written and directed by Nivedita Pohankar, the short film stars Aaditi Pohankar in the lead role. The film’s production boasts a talented crew, with Amit Roy handling cinematography, Deepa Bhatia in charge of editing, and sound design by Kunal Mehta and Parikshit Lalvani.
While introducing the film, Boman and Anupam revealed that their love for Makrand and their shared passion for filmmaking prompted them to come together despite heavy rains. “Boman called me and said, ‘It’s raining, what do we do? We don’t even have umbrellas‘. But we came for this man, Makarand Deshpande,” said Anupam while patting the shoulders of Deshpande, standing beside him on the podium.
Boman Irani echoed the camaraderie: “We’ve worked together since the early days of our careers. In that sense, we’re brothers in arms. It’s crucial that films like this get made. It’s easy to criticise, but creating such a film is the real challenge.”
Anupam and Boman are attending Cannes Film Festival to screen their film ‘Tanvi The Great’ which is directed by Anupam. The film is co-produced by NFDC.
