A R Rahman’s KM Music Conservatory Stages ‘School of Rock’ Live Performance
The KM Music Conservatory (KMMC) transformed into the ultimate ‘School of Rock’ this week as it staged a thrilling live performance of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, captivating audiences with a dynamic blend of talent, energy, and passion. This landmark production marks a significant milestone in AR Rahman’s visionary journey to elevate musical theatre in India.
Driven by his longstanding passion for the art form, AR Rahman’s KMMC has launched an innovative ‘triple threat’ training program, nurturing students in acting, singing, and dancing. This first batch of aspiring performers, under the expert guidance of Broadway choreographer and director Krystal Kiran, brought the story of School of Rock to life, showcasing the transformational power of music and theatre.
Staged at a custom-built setup at ARR Film City, the production featured a cast and crew primarily made up of KMMC students, mentored by industry professionals to provide an authentic behind-the-scenes experience akin to London’s West End and New York’s Broadway.
Speaking about his dream to revolutionise Indian musical theatre, AR Rahman shared, “India is beyond ready to conquer global stages with immersive creative productions. I believe musical theatre is the ideal platform to showcase our phenomenal talents, rich narratives, and profound culture. Our vision is not just to take Indian productions abroad but also to invite the world to experience our vibrant stories through hyperreal, world-class performances. I am beyond proud of our students and faculty at KMMC.”
The next batch of musical theatre students is set to begin their training in July, with KMMC promising more groundbreaking productions on the horizon.
Recently the award winning composer also announced the kick off of his unique Wonderment Tour scheduled to take place in Mumbai at the DY Patil stadium.
