Prem Virk made his debut as an actor in the multi-starrer comedy film Housefull 5. But this wasn’t a sudden leap into the spotlight, Prem’s journey is a testament to patience, perseverance, and passion.
Prem always had the dream of becoming an actor. “Though I was in the Merchant Navy, I always had the dream of becoming an actor. When I stepped into Bollywood, my first film as an assistant director was Housefull 4,” he shares.
Since then, Prem worked his way up behind the scenes, assisting in major Bollywood films like Housefull 4, Good Newwz, Sky Force, Khel Khel Mein, kesari 2 and more, many of them with Akshay Kumar in the lead. Over time, Akshay Kumar noticed Prem’s passion and talent. “Slowly and steadily, I got the opportunity to work on more than 10 films with Akshay sir as an AD. Over time, he got to know that I wanted to become an actor. He used to watch my videos and audition clips, and he liked them,” says Prem.
The turning point came unexpectedly during the shoot of Housefull 5. “My part in Housefull 5 was shot on a cruise. Interestingly, the person who was originally cast for that role had some issues, and because of that, I was given the part. It was Akshay sir who gave me the opportunity, wherein the director was convinced too.”
Prem candidly recalls his nervousness on set. “When I was about to shoot my scene, I was very nervous because there were so many big actors in front of me. But they made me feel extremely comfortable. Especially Akshay sir—he motivated me a lot and told me, ‘You can do it.’ Everyone liked my first scene so much that they ended up adding a few more scenes for me.”
For Prem, it was a surreal moment to debut as an actor in such a grand franchise. “It felt really good because this is my first film as an actor, and the role I got was connected to my past as it was shot on a ship something that made the experience even more special for me.”
I would want to thank my dad my backbone, who’s not with all of us; but is always pushing me to achieve what i want from up there.
